Wilsons fame surpassed that of the United States during 2014, as she landed a part as a character on Showtimes The Affair. In this show, Wilson performed the role of Alison Lockhart who is a young troubled woman from a dark background. Lockhart has a crush on an unmarried Noah Solloway. The show, which also featured Maura Tierney as well as Joshua Jackson was a hit with critics as well as viewers and won Wilson the Golden Globe for Best Actress in an Television Series Drama in 2015. Wilson told British Vogue, "I loved playing the character that has each side of the story." Noah imagines Alison's confident, reckless sexy side. Yet she views her self in a different manner she sees herself as shy and dowdy in the real world. She added: I do believe that America is morally skewed and judging that everything that happens on the show appears to be a shock. Wilson's departure from the show shocked many of her fans in 2018. She remained in the dark about what happened. In an August 2018 interview on CBS This Morning, Wilson stated that she did wish to quit the show, but wasn't allowed to explain the reasons behind her departure. Wilson has now turned her attention to the film industry. She was in the horror film I Am the Pretty Thing Who Lives in The House in 2016, and later in the sci-fi rom-com How to Talk to Girls on Parties as the mysterious PT Stella. To add to her horror credits, Wilson will also star in the British movie adaptation of The Little Stranger. The supernatural thriller was adapted from an Sarah Waters' novel. Wilson is the executive producer of the film.
